DEFINITIONS

Aneurysm is a protrusion (dilation, dilatation) on the walls of an artery, usually in the aorta.

Protrusion usually occurs at a weak area in the artery wall.
Aneurysms can occur along the aorta, but 75% aneurysm appeared in the aorta that leads to the stomach.

Aneurysms can round (sakuler) or like tubes (Fusiform).
Most of Fusiform shape.

CAUSE

Aortic aneurysm is primarily a result of arteriosclerosis, which causes weakness of the aortic wall so that the pressure in the push walls bulged out.
In the aneurysm, blood clots often formed (thrombus) and can spread along the wall of the aorta.

Anerurisma increased risk of high blood pressure and cigarette smokers.
Some of the factors that cause a person tends to suffer from aneurysms:
- Congenital abnormalities (weakness in the walls of blood vessels)
- Injury or gunshot wound
- Fungal or bacterial infection in arterial walls
- Inflammation of the aorta
- The disease of connective tissue derivatives (eg marfan syndrome)
- Syphilis.

In marfan syndrome, aneurysms are often found in the ascending aorta (the aorta is directly out of the heart).
Aneurysms can also occur in arteries other than aorta.

SYMPTOMS

Often appeared swollen with a throbbing mass in the area where the aneurysm is located.

When aneurysms rupture, there will be symptoms of low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat and dizziness.
Aneurysms that rupture have a high risk of death.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis based on results of physical examination, ultrasound and CT scan.

TREATMENT

Infected aneurysm in an artery leading to the brain is very dangerous and needs to be addressed.
The infection usually comes from other body parts, especially the heart valves. Often need to be a very risky surgery.
