DEFINITIONS

Vitamin B6 is the generic name for:
- Piridoksin
- Piridoksal
- Piridoksamin.

This vitamin is needed as a catalyst in reactions involving amino acids in the blood cells, brain cells and skin cells.

VITAMIN B6 DEFICIENCY

Vitamin B6 deficiency due to poor absorption in the digestive tract or the use of drugs that deplete reserves of vitamin B6 in the body (eg isoniasid, hidralazin and Penicillamine).

This vitamin deficiency also occurs in hereditary disease that inhibits the metabolism of vitamin B6.
Ni diseases can cause severe mental retardation, seizures, and anemia are difficult to be corrected.

Vitamin B6 deficiency in infants can cause convulsions and anemia.

In adults will arise dermatitis, nerve damage (neuropathy) and confusion.

Other symptoms include:

EXCESS VITAMIN B6

High doses of vitamin B6 (500-3000 times the recommended daily dose) given to treat carpal tunnel syndrome or premenstrual tension, can cause great damage to the nerve, which partly damage the spinal cord, which can cause difficulty in walking.

Healing in this situation is slow and difficulties in walking may persist after the use of additional B6 discontinued.
